The game was not some high-octane showdown. It was 9-7, Western Michigan, with about 3:10 left in the fourth quarter. Michigan quarterback Bryan Underwood fumbled the ball before the two-minute timeout, and Western Michigan recovered it. They kicked another field goal. The drive by Michigan is where things get iffy. Underwood launched the ball toward the end zone. Time had clearly expired, and the play was broken up by Western Michigan, but an official review put one second back on the clock, and this time Underwood connected for the walk-off touchdown. In real time, the announcers and everyone were saying the game was over before the official review.

The clock ran out! Giving Michigan an extra second there was a high crime and misdemeanor. https://t.co/QfIDN9Fkv1— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) September 6, 2026
That extra second will be the most scrutinized second in college football this weekend. What a stunning scene in Ann Arbor. https://t.co/guXLDwstF3— Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) September 6, 2026
This might be the greatest robbery in NCAA football history.— Fran Fraschilla (@franfraschilla) September 6, 2026
Stunk for decades before the cheating.Cheated for 3 years, won.Stopped cheating, immediately bad again.Cry if you want, that’s what happened.— Justin Spiro (@DarkoStateNews) September 6, 2026
We're not going to see a funnier win all season than what Michigan just accomplished.— David Ubben (@davidubben) September 6, 2026
I mean, that’s just good ole’ fashioned rigging.
