What to know about Lions vs. Panthers

The Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers bring two of the NFL’s most productive offenses into Sunday night’s spotlight, with Detroit looking to improve to 3-1 and Carolina trying to climb back to .500 in its first Sunday Night Football appearance since 2016.

Detroit has scored 93 points through three games, the third-highest total in the league, despite an 0-1 road record. Quarterback Jared Goff has thrown for 802 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception, while Jahmyr Gibbs has already produced 307 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown remains his favorite target with 23 receptions, 228 yards and five touchdowns.

Carolina’s offense has been just as explosive. Bryce Young leads the NFL with 939 passing yards and has thrown seven touchdowns against two interceptions. The Panthers enter averaging 29.7 points and nearly 393 yards per game, with Jalen Coker emerging as a key weapon after posting 18 catches for 222 yards.

The matchup may be decided when Detroit has the ball. The Lions average 31 points per game, while Carolina’s injury-depleted secondary is expected to be without veteran cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson. That leaves Goff, Gibbs and St. Brown facing a defense that has allowed 83 points through three weeks.

On the other side, Young faces a Detroit defense that has surrendered 95 points, the most in the NFL. That statistic alone could turn Sunday night into one of Week 4’s highest-scoring games.
