That trust carried particular importance with Carolina missing two key receivers. Xavier Legette is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury, while Jalen Coker was inactive with a quadriceps injury. McMillan gave Young a dependable option throughout a game in which the Panthers needed their remaining playmakers to deliver.

Young completed 29-of-41 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Both touchdown throws went to McMillan, who scored from 32 yards in the second quarter and 10 yards in the third.

The performance marked a sharp response to McMillan’s two-catch, 17-yard outing against the Cleveland Browns a week earlier. The reigning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year drew 16 targets against the Lions and repeatedly rewarded Young’s willingness to throw his way.

McMillan also delivered a crucial catch late in the fourth quarter. After the Lions cut the Panthers’ lead to 32-26, he hauled in a toe-tapping sideline reception for a first down, helping Carolina take more time off the clock. Detroit regained possession, but the Panthers’ defense stopped the Lions on their final drive to secure the win.

Chuba Hubbard supplied the balance on the ground, rushing 20 times for a season-high 122 yards and two touchdowns. His production complemented a passing attack that leaned heavily on McMillan throughout the night.

The Panthers finished with a win and a clear example of the connection Young described afterward. With other receivers unavailable and Detroit threatening late, McMillan delivered the catches Carolina needed to seal the deal.
