More than 259,000 electric customers — most in southeast Michigan — are without power across the state as of 7 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, after strong thunderstorms hit the state for the second straight day.

A line of storms moved northwest to southeast across Michigan Wednesday and again on Thursday afternoon and night, Sept. 3.

As of 7 a.m., Friday, 242,000 customers were without power in Michigan, down from figures reported Thursday night that at least 300,000 customers were without power.

The vast majority of those in Michigan without power — 241,000— are DTE customers.

"We know how hard it is to be without power. Our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible, fighting against multiple waves of extreme weather to get power restored."

About 17,000 Consumers Energy customers, mostly along a line from Lansing south through Jackson, were without power Friday morning.

DTE says its Storm Response Team of 3,400 members has already restored more than 70,000 customers affected by the multiple waves of storms and expect to restore 65% of impacted customers by end of day Friday, and 90% of customers by end of day Saturday.

The largest cluster of customers without power is located in Oakland County where about 98,000 were without service. Wayne County, also in southeast Michigan, had 66,000 customers without power while Washtenaw County, had 30,000 without service.
